Rebel Spring

A Falling Kingdoms Novel

by Morgan Rhodes

12 . 03 . 2013

From Amazon:

Auranos has been conquered and the three kingdoms—Auranos, Limeros, and Paelsia—are now unwillingly united as one country called Mytica. But alluring, dangerous magic still beckons, and with it the chance to rule not just Mytica, but the world. . . .

  • CLEO is now a prisoner in her own palace, forced to be an ambassador for Mytica as the evil King Gaius lies to her people
  • MAGNUS stands to eventually inherit the new kingdom but is still obsessed with his feelings for his adopted sister Lucia
  • LUCIA is haunted by the deadly outcome of her breathtaking display of magic that allowed her father to capture the kingdoms
  • JONAS watches at the palace gates, a troop of rebels behind him, waiting for him to tell them how he plans to overtake King Gaius

When Gaius announces that a road is to be built into the Forbidden Mountains, formally linking all of Mytica together, he sets off a chain of cataclysmic events that will forever change the face of this land.

This series has everything adventure, war, intrigue, heartbreak.  If you enjoyed Game of Thrones or Throne of Glass you will really enjoy this young adult series.  I was truly impressed by how complex the interwoven stories were in the first book of the series, Falling Kingdoms.  I am on a serious fantasy kick and am eagerly anticipating when I can finaly find out what happens next in this series.

Takedown Twenty

Takedown Twenty

A Stephanie Plum Novel

by Janet Evanovich

11 . 19 . 2013

From Amazon:

Stephanie Plum has her sights set on catching a notorious mob boss. If she doesn’t take him down, he may take her out.

New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum knows better than to mess with family. But when powerful mobster Salvatore “Uncle Sunny” Sunucchi goes on the lam in Trenton, it’s up to Stephanie to find him. Uncle Sunny is charged with murder for running over a guy (twice), and nobody wants to turn him in—not his poker buddies, not his bimbo girlfriend, not his two right-hand men, Shorty and Moe. Even Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli, has  skin in the game, because—just Stephanie’s luck—the godfather is his actual godfather. And while Morelli understands that the law is the law, his old-world grandmother, Bella, is doing everything she can to throw Stephanie off the trail.

It’s not just Uncle Sunny giving Stephanie the run-around. Security specialist Ranger needs her help to solve the bizarre death of a top client’s mother, a woman who happened to play bingo with Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur. Before Stephanie knows it, she’s working side by side with Ranger and Grandma at the senior center, trying to catch a killer on the loose—and the bingo balls are not rolling in their favor.

With bullet holes in her car, henchmen on her tail, and a giraffe named Kevin running wild in the streets of Trenton, Stephanie will have to up her game for the ultimate takedown.

I first picked up these books for 2 reasons.  Firstly, because the series takes place in Trenton, NJ  which is literally a 10 minute drive from where I grew up.  Secondly, book number 1 One for the Money is ELECTRIC BLUE with neon yellow and pink writing.   The first book was such a make-people-think-your-crazy-laugh-out-loud-in-public good time, that I had to read the second, and third, and….well twentieth book in the series!  I am seriously excited to see what trouble Stephanie Plum gets into next.  Just a suggestion though….don’t read this when you are hungry…Plum eats so much junk food that you’ll end up craving some seriously unhealthy deep fried food.

No Good Duke

No Good Duke Goes Unpunished

The Third Rule Of Scoundrels

by Sarah MacLean

11 . 26 . 2013

From Amazon:

A rogue ruined . . .

He is the Killer Duke, accused of murdering Mara Lowe on the eve of her wedding. With no memory of that fateful night, Temple has reigned over the darkest of London’s corners for twelve years, wealthy and powerful, but beyond redemption. Until one night, Mara resurfaces, offering the one thing he’s dreamed of . . . absolution.

A lady returned . . .

Mara planned never to return to the world from which she’d run, but when her brother falls deep into debt at Temple’s exclusive casino, she has no choice but to offer Temple a trade that ends in her returning to society and proving to the world what only she knows…that he is no killer.

A scandal revealed . . .

It’s a fine trade, until Temple realizes that the lady—and her past—are more than they seem. It will take every bit of his strength to resist the pull of this mysterious, maddening woman who seems willing to risk everything for honor . . . and to keep from putting himself on the line for love.

Sarah MacLean’s novels are written with dazzling wit and sentiment straight from the heart.  These novels will carry you right back to a wonderfully romanticized regency England; truly escapist, incredibly sweet, and definitely hot in certain parts.   I can’t wait to read the next installment!
