Night Broken

A Mercy Thompson Novel

by Patricia Briggs

03 . 11 . 14

From Amazon:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen). Now, Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.

An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from a stalker. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s stalker is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Patricia Briggs writes funny, fast-paced paranormal adventures that are fantastic to read.  Mercy Thompson is one of my favorite characters: she may not be the strongest or biggest predator but she makes up the difference with cleverness, persistence, and a whole heap of sarcasm.  She’s not perfect — not a Mary Sue.  She has some issues, but it just makes you cheer her on as she works through them.  If you liked Rose in Vampire Academy, or Katniss from The Hunger Games you will definitely like Mercy.

Murder of Crows

A Novel of Others

by Anne Bishop

03 . 04 . 14

From Amazon: Murder of Crows

Return to New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop’s “phenomenal” (Urban Fantasy Investigations) world of the Others—where supernatural entities and humans struggle to co-exist, and one woman has begun to change all the rules…

After winning the trust of the terra indigene residing in the Lakeside Courtyard, Meg Corbyn has had trouble figuring out what it means to live among them. As a human, Meg should be barely tolerated prey, but her abilities as a cassandra sangue make her something more.

The appearance of two addictive drugs has sparked violence between the humans and the Others, resulting in the murder of both species in nearby cities. So when Meg has a dream about blood and black feathers in the snow, Simon Wolfgard—Lakeside’s shape-shifting leader—wonders if their blood prophet dreamed of a past attack or a future threat.

As the urge to speak prophecies strikes Meg more frequently, trouble finds its way inside the Courtyard. Now, the Others and the handful of humans residing there must work together to stop the man bent on reclaiming their blood prophet—and stop the danger that threatens to destroy them all.

I have always loved Anne Bishop’s work.  I even made my husband drive 6 hours with me to go meet her.   I was originally a bit skeptical about this series.  Most of her other books are written in more traditional fantasy lands.  However, once I gave Written in Red a chance, I could NOT put it down…and have actually re-read it since.  Once after recommending Written in Red to one of my closest friends, I received a text that said “I finished the book, and I hate you.  Did you know the sequel doesn’t come out until next year?!”  Along with others, I have been waiting for this book for what feels like forever (though its only been about a year) and have already requested off from work on March 4th so I don’t have to waste any time getting started.

What are you waiting on…?

P.S. So EXCITED!!

Vacation Over

I’m back!

It’s been a while.  I have been distracted by changing jobs, planning a wedding, and getting married!  The end of 2013 was pretty crazy, and not a little bit stressful, but was pretty incredible over all.  Unfortunately, I didn’t really have a lot of time to read, so I took a brief hiatus from MJ Reads.  However, craziness over now.  I am happily married to a wonderful man and well rested after an extended honeymoon.  I can’t wait to get back to reading and writing!

See you all later this week!
