Wedding Cake Murder

Hannah Swensen #19

by Joanna Fluke

02 . 23 . 2016

From Goodreads:

Everyone in Lake Eden, Minnesota, may have had their doubts, but at long last, Hannah Swensen is getting married!

Hannah is thrilled to be marrying Ross Barton, her college crush. And her excitement only grows when she learns he’ll be able to join her on her trip to New York City for the Food Channel’s dessert chef contest. She’s especially nervous about facing Alain Duquesne, a celebrity chef with a nasty reputation. But before he can tear into Hannah’s layer cake, she finds him stabbed to death on the show’s kitchen set. Out of the oven, as the saying goes, and into the bright lights of Broadway, as Hannah tries to solve a mystery with more layers than a five-tiered wedding cake…

Why I am waiting…

Because she is getting MARRIED! and going to New York!

Just when the series was getting too repetative, Fluke got even more creative.  She really has done a great job with the series!

And!! For anyone who is already a fan of the series.  I just discovered the Hallmark Channel has made a movie based on the first book.  The Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder is based on the first book of the Hannah Swensen Series.  The movie is playing throughout the summer on the Hallmark Channel (makes me wish I hadn’t gotten rid of cable!) Check out a trailer below!

Cast in Honor

Chronicles of Elantra #11

by Michelle Sagara

11 . 24 . 2015

From Goodreads:

In the aftermath of a vicious battle between darkness and light, the city of Elantra has emerged victorious. But Shadows continue to haunt every corner of its streets…

Elantra stands strong, but countless numbers of Hawks, the city’s staunchest protectors, were lost in the brutal attack. Humans, Barrani, Aerians, Leontines—none of the races emerged unscathed from the defense of the city. Homes were lost, families were scattered…and the outcast Barrani Lord Nightshade is missing from his castle in the fiefs.

Yet as the chaos surrounding the battle begins to wane, Private Kaylin Neya’s duties must resume, despite her grief. Called in to investigate a triple murder in a quiet part of town, Kaylin and her companions are soon embroiled in a case that is anything but routine. Evidence of the deadly Shadows that still threaten the city leads to hints of ancient, forgotten magics. And a visit to the Oracular Halls points directly to Ravellon—the heart of the Shadows and the darkness they contain.

But it is there that Lord Nightshade will be found—if he still survives.

Why I am waiting…

I am not entirely certain that I am waiting on this one…Don’t get me wrong, the series has been great, but I might be losing interest this late in the game.  I keep reading the books, hoping for a bit more romance, and then being a bit disappointed.  I will not be giving up though.  I will keep reading!  As it is, this cover looks even better than the last ones and the description sounds promising!

Cold-Hearted Rake

New Series????

by Lisa Kleypas

10 . 27 . 2015

From GoodReads:

A twist of fate…

Devon Ravenel, London’s most wickedly charming rake, has just inherited an earldom. But his powerful new rank in society comes with unwanted responsibilities . . . and more than a few surprises. His estate is saddled with debt, and the late earl’s three innocent sisters are still occupying the house . . . along with Kathleen, Lady Trenear, a beautiful young widow whose sharp wit and determination are a match for Devon’s own.

A clash of wills…

Kathleen knows better than to trust a ruthless scoundrel like Devon. But the fiery attraction between them is impossible to deny—and from the first moment Devon holds her in his arms, he vows to do whatever it takes to possess her. As Kathleen finds herself yielding to his skillfully erotic seduction, only one question remains:

Can she keep from surrendering her heart to the most dangerous man she’s ever known?

Why I am waiting…

If this new series is anywhere near as good as the last few series Kleypas wrote — than I have a whole new list of books to add to my can’t wait to read pile!  Kleypas has some sassy heroines –they always make for great reading.  I tore through her other series and look forward to starting this one!

Closer to The Heart

Herald Spy #2

by Mercedes Lackey

10 . 06 . 2015

From GoodReads:

Mags was a Herald of Valdemar. But he had once lived the brutal life of a child slave. When he was Chosen by his Companion Dallen, his young life was saved, and he slowly adjusted to being well fed, educated, and treasured as a trainee in the Herald’s Collegium at Haven. Singled out by the King’s Own Herald, Mags would thrive in his secret training as a spy. His unusually strong Gift—an ability to Mindspeak and Mindhear anyone, not just others who were Gifted—made him a perfect undercover agent for the king.

Sequel to Mercedes Lackey’s Closer to Home, this adventure continues Mags’s journey as Valdemar’s herald spy.

Why I am waiting…

Mercedes Lackey is one of my favorite authors.  I’ve reread her books so many times I have lost count.  I love that she writes all of her novels in the same universe — I hate saying goodbye to beloved characters, and this way, I don’t need to! I really enjoy that each of her main characters have slightly different gifts.  Not all of them are incredibly powerful (like Vanyel, or Mags) some (like Karal and Skiff) are just talented, compassionate, and smart.  She includes as much politics  and intrigue as adventure.  Its a great series!  October can’t come soon enough!

Waiting on Wednesday: Dead Heat (Alpha and Omega #4)

This week’s can’t-wait-to-read is:

Dead Heat (Alpha & Omega, #4)

Dead Heat

Alpha and Omega #4

by Patricia Briggs

03 . 03 . 2015

From GoodReads and Amazon:

THE NEW CHARLES AND ANNA NOVEL
Praised as “the perfect blend of action, romance, suspense and paranormal,”* the Alpha and Omega novels transport readers into the realm of the werewolf, where Charles Cornick and Anna Latham embody opposite sides of the shifter personality. Now, a pleasure trip drops the couple into the middle of some bad supernatural business

For once, mated werewolves Charles and Anna are not traveling because of Charles’s role as his father’s enforcer. This time, their trip to Arizona is purely personal, as Charles plans to buy Anna a horse for her birthday. Or at least it starts out that way…

Charles and Anna soon discover that a dangerous Fae being is on the loose, replacing human children with simulacrums. The Fae’s cold war with humanity is about to heat up—and Charles and Anna are in the cross fire.

Why I am waiting…

The answer is simple.  I love this author; she is simply one of the best paranormal fantasy authors out there.   All you have to do is read one of her books to be hooked forever.  Just, trust me on this one.  If anyone else out there agrees, they should back me up!

Waiting on Wednesday: Double Fudge Brownie Murder (Hannah Swensen #18)

Double Fudge Brownie Murder (Hannah Swensen, #18)

This week’s can’t-wait-to-read is:

Double Fudge Brownie Murder

Hannah Swensen #18

by Joanna Fluke

02 . 24 . 15

From GoodReads:

Life in tiny Lake Eden, Minnesota, is usually pleasantly uneventful. Lately, though, it seems everyone has more than their fair share of drama–especially the Swensen family. With so much on her plate, Hannah Swensen can hardly find the time to think about her bakery–let alone the town’s most recent murder.  .  .

Hannah is nervous about the upcoming trial for her involvement in a tragic accident. She’s eager to clear her name once and for all, but her troubles only double when she finds the judge bludgeoned to death with his own gavel–and Hannah is the number one suspect. Now on trial in the court of public opinion, she sets out in search of the culprit and discovers that the judge made more than a few enemies during his career. With time running out, Hannah will have to whip up her most clever recipe yet to find a killer more elusive than the perfect brownie.

Why I am waiting…

So, interestlingly enough back in 2013 I saw a post by someone who was Waiting On a Hannah Swensen novel.  It looks intriguing…bright colored covers, mysteries, and who DOESN’T love cookies?!  I picked up the first book, Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder, and was hooked. And not just on the books, the recipes are pretty great too.  This series has everything from an over bearing mother, co-conspirator sister, crazy cats, a love triangle, small town shenanigans, sweets and murder.

After book 16 and change (there were some “.5s” in there) the formula was getting a bit repetitive.  However, Fluke really shook things up in book 17 and I cannot wait to see how it plays out in this book.

Also — I always look forward to the new recipes.

Note:  If you do try some of the recipes, which I would definitely recommend, make sure to pay attention to how many cookies or desserts they make and maybe cut the recipe in half.  So many cookies!

Waiting on Wednesday: The Tempting of Thomas Carrick (Cynster)

WaitingOnWednesday02

Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.com, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

The Tempting of Thomas Carrick (Cynster, #22)

This week’s can’t-wait-to-read is:

The Tempting of Thomas Carrick

Cynster #…I’ve lost count…

by Stephanie Laurens

02 . 24 . 15

From GoodReads:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Laurens returns to Scotland, where destiny and passion intertwine…

Thomas Carrick is determined to make his own life in the bustling port city of Glasgow, far from the demands of the Carrick clan, eventually with an appropriate wife on his arm. But disturbing events on his family’s estate force Thomas to return to the Scottish countryside—where he is forced to ask for help from the last woman he wants to face. Thomas has never forgotten Lucilla Cynster and the connection that seethes between them, but to marry Lucilla would mean embracing a life he’s adamant is not for him.

Strong-willed and passionate, Lucilla knows Thomas is hers—her fated lover, husband, protector, mate. He is the only man for her, just as she is his one true love. How can he ignore a bond stronger than reason and choose a different path? She’s determined to fight for their future, and while she cannot command him, she has enticements of her own to wield when it comes to tempting Thomas Carrick.

Why I am waiting…

BECAUSE I NEED MORE CYNSTER.

Really that’s just it,  You would think that after so many (There are probably about as many Cynster novels as Stephanie Plum and Hannah Swensen novels ) I would have had my fill of the Cynster family.  However, Laurens has a gift for sweet and exciting romance novels that focus on romantic love and family love.  I really do enjoy how the whole family, especially the “original six” get involved in most of these stories.  Each new novel is an adventure that introduces new character while bringing back beloved older characters. We’ve met both Lucilla and Thomas in the previous novels and I am so excited to learn their story.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Ruby Circle (A Bloodlines Novel)

WaitingOnWednesday02

Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.com, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

The Ruby Circle (Bloodlines, #6)

This week’s can’t-wait-to-read is:

The Ruby Circle

A Bloodlines Novel

by Richelle Mead

02 . 10 . 15

From GoodReads:

The epic conclusion to Richelle Mead’s New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series is finally here…
Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

After their secret romance is exposed, Sydney and Adrian find themselves facing the wrath of both the Alchemists and the Moroi in this electrifying conclusion to Richelle Mead’s New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series. When the life of someone they both love is put on the line, Sydney risks everything to hunt down a deadly former nemesis. Meanwhile, Adrian becomes enmeshed in a puzzle that could hold the key to a shocking secret about spirit magic, a secret that could shake the entire Moroi world.

Why I am waiting…

I am not going to lie — I am both ecstatic that this will being coming out soon and terribly sad.  I have really enjoyed this Bloodlines series, much more than I had anticipated.  I read Mead’s Georgina Kincaid Novels first and they were phenomenal — though a bit more adult / graphic in their content than Vampire Academy Series which I also thoroughly enjoyed (I really wish that they had done a better job with the movie on that one though).

So, though I really want to know how the series is going to end — especially after the cliff hanger at the end of the last book, I simply don’t want the series to actually end.

Perhaps I will have to check out her Game Board of the Gods series after this.  I have heard some good things!

Waiting on Wednesday: Low Midnight (Kitty Norville #13)

WaitingOnWednesday02

Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.com, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s can’t-wait-to-read is:Low Midnight (Kitty Norville, #13)

Low Midnight

Kitty Norville #13

by Carrie Vaughn

12 . 30 . 14

From GoodReads:

Low Midnight spins out of the series on the wave of popularity surrounding Kitty’s most popular supporting character, Cormac Bennett, a two-minded assassin of the paranormal who specializes in killing lycanthropes.

In his first solo adventure, Cormac, struggling with a foreign consciousness trapped inside him, investigates a century-old crime in a Colorado mining town which could be the key to translating a mysterious coded diary… a tome with secrets that could shatter Kitty’s world and all who inhabit it.

With a framing sequence that features Kitty Norville herself, Low Midnight not only pushes the Kitty saga forward, but also illuminates Cormac’s past and lays the groundwork for Kitty’s future.

Why I am waiting…

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!  HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?!?

Okay– craziness done.  So — somehow, this completely escaped my notice.  I am really excited to see more from Cormac’s point of view — if you are familiar with the series, then you will know why.  He really was one of my favorite characters in the very beginning of the series.  I feel like there has not been enough of him, and clearly others have felt the same way.

The series has been getting more and more intense as the war with Roman comes closer.  I cannot wait to see what the new adventures bring to light.  I am so invested in the series,  I NEED to know more about what happens.

Also, this has taught me that not knowing a book is coming out can be kinda great.  It means less time to wait!

Waiting on Wednesday: The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy (Smythe-Smith Quartet #4)

WaitingOnWednesday02

Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.com, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s can’t-wait-to-read is:

The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy (Smythe-Smith Quartet, #4)

The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy

Smythe-Smith #4

by Julia Quinn

01 . 27 . 15

From GoodReads:

Sir Richard Kenworthy has less than a month to find a bride. He knows he can’t be too picky, but when he sees Iris Smythe-Smith hiding behind her cello at her family’s infamous musicale, he thinks he might have struck gold. She’s the type of girl you don’t notice until the second—or third—look, but there’s something about her, something simmering under the surface, and he knows she’s the one.

Iris Smythe–Smith is used to being underestimated. With her pale hair and quiet, sly wit she tends to blend into the background, and she likes it that way. So when Richard Kenworthy demands an introduction, she is suspicious. He flirts, he charms, he gives every impression of a man falling in love, but she can’t quite believe it’s all true. When his proposal of marriage turns into a compromising position that forces the issue, she can’t help thinking that he’s hiding something . . . even as her heart tells her to say yes.

Why I am waiting…

Having read many of Julia Quinn other novels, I know that she delivers a delightful romance that absolutely sparkles with witty dialogue.  Her books are fantastically amusing and clever.  I always look forward to them and this series has proven to be just as delightful as The Bridgertons, possibly even more so.  If you like historical romance at all — you must read these books.
